Guard Positions

There are 3 different ways you can implement a stationary guard position during a time of war.

1. Tower- this is only necessary if you need elevation to see out with enough distance to stop a threat before it reaches you.
2. Car- I cannot discourage this enough, however, it does work in a pinch.
3. OP/LP (Fox hole) - this works great if you're trying to be sneaky. It also gives you the best form of protection. 

Fox Holes

Fox holes are: A hole that is dug down into the ground and is approximately 8 feet in diameter. You want to be able to lie down in the hole. And use the dirt you dug up to fortify your position with. Also don't forget camouflage. Pulling foliage from behind your position can aid you in this. 

They are used for: long term fighting positions and long term guard positions. 

The Clock Method

The clock method is: Placing your guard points in the hour hand positions (think of a clock) gives you 360 degree security. It also helps in quick identification of what direction the attack is coming from. 

It is important because: This helps you insure that there is no way you will be attacked without the enemy being seen and engaged by your guards. 

Using Vehicles

You can use a vehicle instead of a fox hole by: Parking a vehicle in the position you wish to use.

You would use a vehicle instead of a fox hole when: As a temporary fix or when you're only staying at that location for a brief amount of time.

The benefits of using a vehicle: It is quick and can protect you against the elements.

The problems with using a vehicle: It is easily seen as window reflects light. They are not bullet proof and interfere with your ability to be fully observant. 

Guard Towers

You would use guard towers when: ONLY for long term location where you have to elevate to see over obstacles, walls, or terrain. 

Why you number your towers: Like the clock method, you want everyone to be able to know where the threat is coming from.

HESCO Barriers

HESCO Barriers are: 5' x 5' x 8' baskets. Used all around the world by the military to erect a fast wall to protect from waves of attackers, indirect fire, small arms fire, and attacking vehicles. 

They are good because: Fast to set up and fire, bullet, vehicle, explosion, and shrapnel proof. 

The only downside is you can't see through them.

Barbed Wire

You should position your barbed wire: 1st should be electrified and directly against the guard point. 2nd should be 4 to 6 feet in front of that. 3 shouldn't be electrified and needs to be 10-15 feet in front of that.

Barbed wire will help your stationary guards by: Slowing the advance of attacking forces on foot and on some vehicles. 

The Kill Zone

You don't want to play games during a time of war. Take advantage of the kill zone. Use it to stop any intruders from breaking past your defensive perimeter.
