Personality
Pharaoh took his test on 9/17/2022 and ultimately scored a B. This is because he has an interesting mix of really high scores and low scores (not all low scores are bad scores - this just means that he can be more chill). As a result, his average was right in the middle. Only time will tell as he grows, his environment, socialization and training what type of personality he will stick with.
Pharaoh is very sweet hearted and loves to play. I've not seen him exhibit any fear with strangers and his love for tug o' war make him a great candidate for possible protection training.
Overall, a B personality score is a very good grade to have in your home if you are looking for a serious protection dog. However, I would advise that you have some experience working and training with dogs before you decide to undertake a canine like this.
Service work examples that would work well with this personality score:
- Police work
- Military canine
- Personal Protection
- Search & Rescue
Furthermore, they have the potential to be excellent family pets. Their extremely loving nature, combined with their ability to better handle fear puts them on an excellent starting point for protecting their family.
Keep in mind, caution should be exercised when you have visitors. They will likely be protective of their pack (ie. their family) and may be suspicious of outsiders. Lots of socialization starting at a young age and consistent training is vital.
Social Outing Assessment 3/28/2023
Social Outing Assessment 11/29/2022
Social outing assesments are conducted on a one on one basis where I take the puppy out into the world and see how they react to numerous experiences. Major factors that I consider for this is how they react to strangers, automatic doors, vehicle rides, etc.
This is done in preparation for potential work as a service or protection dog since behavior and socialization are a major factor that type of work.
During Pharaoh's social outing assessment, he was very low key. While he was a little nervous about the leash, he did not pull at the time and showed no fear of strangers. Furthermore, car rides were very easy going. While I did have to pick him up to get him into the vehicle, he didn't cry or whine during our drive. Instead, he just lay down and fell asleep.
While we were out, we stopped by the park and let the children play. Pharaoh was very friendly and showed no fear towards strangers. However, he was overly concerned about my approval.
Side note: This is actually a good sign for potential protection training as fearful aggression towards strangers is dangerous and harder to control.
There was one girl in particular that loved all over him and really enjoyed giving him his treats. Pharaoh was very gentle and made sure not to nip with his teeth while taking the treats.

Despite the fact that Pharaoh was going through a fear stage at the time of his assessment, he still did really well. While he will need to be re-evaluated as he exits his fear stage to make sure his confidence returns like it should, Pharaoh shows potential for being an excellent protection or service dog.
His extensive patience with children, understanding the strength of his teeth and being careful are very promising signs. So much so that I would even recommend him as a great therapy dog for special needs children.

Current Training
While I currently have not been able to work with him as extensively as I would like (due to an intern shortage), he does catch on quickly and is eager to please.
Right now Pharaoh responds to hand signals but has not yet mastered verbal commands. He knows sit and lie down. I'm also working on teaching him not to jump by requiring that he sit for everything that he wants. Which is a work in progress. (This is especially helpful when entering or leaving a building or gate in order to prevent him from darting because he must sit before he can go through.)
As far as potty training goes, I have not had an accident with him while working with him in the home or at a store. However, I cannot guarantee his behavior in a new environment as I have not been able to fully vet him to my satisfaction.
On the other hand, I can tell you that potty training should go very smoothly. Just be sure that you are consistent and watch him closely for the first couple of days.
