America exists only because enough people worked together to fight for their freedom despite the overwhelming odds.
America's history is one of resistance. Unfortunately, we have forgotten that in order to stay free, we must always *fight to keep it. Not only that, but we must teach our children to push to keep it. It is easy to take your rights away when you don't know what they are or you've been led to believe that those rights are dangerous.
* Fighting for freedom isn't always in a battlefield. Our battle (for right now) is at the ballot box. We need to vote in public officials that will keep their oaths, follow the constitution and preserve that freedom.

The Battle of Athens
Athens, Tennessee is a prime example of Americans standing up to an oppressive government in America and winning. Many know of it in history as the Battle of Athens.
What was the Battle of Athens? Who was involved? And what where they fighting for? All very important questions, but the best question is how does this relate to me in present day? Follow along and you will find out.
Bill White
Bill White grew up poor outside the city of Athens, TN. He, like so many others, joined the military when WWII began. He served in the Marines in Guadalcanal and Tarawa.
This is where some of the most horrific fighting could be found throughout the war. If you've ever come across anyone who had served in Guadalcanal and Tarawa, you will find that it is very hard to get them to talk about it.

Guadalcanal
At Guadalcanal, the Japanese were able to flank and attack American soldiers without warning by use of complex tunnels beneath the ground.
They were fond of using psychological warfare by capturing soldiers and torturing them within earshot of their comrades. Because of this, Marines were forced to listen as their battle buddies, that had been captured, were skinned alive. The remains of the tortured soldiers would be found the next morning by recon patrols.
This is the kind of life that Bill White and a few others came out of before coming home.
Crooked Politics
After defeating Communism, these brave warriors returned home, only to fight a different battle.
Sheriff Paul Cantrell was a crooked sheriff that wasn't above cheating to win an election. With Clifford “Windy” Wise by his side, he was almost unstoppable.
Along with the many questionable things the sheriff allowed to go on, Cantrell knew that Wise had a thing for harassing and arresting travelers coming through their “dry” county. This is how he crossed paths with Bill White.
Arresting GI's
"To anyone openly opposing Sheriff Cantrell, there were late night phone calls with threats, unexplained damage to property, and of course those that where thrown into jail for “public intoxication” along with other made-up charges."
It appears that Wise stopped a bus of GI's returning home, and arrested all of them for “public intoxication”. The sheriff was using it as a money scam against GI's and the county.
For every prisoner the county had to pay the sheriff to house them. They had collected over $300,000 just in Cantrell's three terms. After illegally arresting White, White decided that it was time for a new sheriff.

Electing A New Sheriff
Since it was an election year, Bill White, along with other GI's, organized and openly supported Knox Henry for sheriff. This brought a lot of negative attention.
To anyone openly opposing Sheriff Cantrell, there was late night phone calls with threats, unexplained damage to property, and of course those that where thrown into jail for “public intoxication” along with other made-up charges.
No Help From the FBI
"The sheriff and his coworkers, were so corrupt, they were willing to shoot voters who opposed them."
In an attempt to stop the madness peacefully, a letter was sent out to Director Hoover of the FBI. The citizens of Athens were requesting that the FBI oversee the elections to ensure a fair election.
The FBI never came.
Shooting Voters
The sheriff and his coworkers, were so corrupt, they were willing to shoot voters who opposed them.
Tom Gillespie had planned on enacting his constitutional rights, like everyone else that day. However, he never got the chance.
After being assaulted by Windy Wise, he was shot in the back as he attempted to re-enter the building to cast his vote.
Stealing the Ballot Boxes
Wise and the other deputies then stole the ballot boxes and ran to the sheriff's department to destroy the votes against their regime.
By nightfall White and the other GI's, surrounded the sheriff's department. After demanding the ballot boxes back, White and others received gunfire from the building.

Responding with Deadly Force
They decided enough was enough. Bill White and the GI's used good old fashioned military tactics. They responded with a wave of gunfire onto the building to suppress the deputy's shooting.
A small group of men advanced onto the building and threw a bundle of dynamite by the front door. After the smoke and dust settled, the deputies surrendered and the ballot boxes were recovered.
The "honorable" Sheriff Cantrell skipped town while Wise and the others were arrested and prosecuted. Once again democracy was restored.
Was Bill White Wrong?
Bill White and his comrades used deadly force to preserve their freedom. Was he wrong for doing so?
Absolutely not! Why? Because he exercised every legal avenue of approach first before using deadly force. No until we have no other option, should we implement military tactics. However, you should always be prepared to do so. Otherwise, tyranny will reign and many millions of innocent lives will be ruined.
Fighting for Freedom
Everyday our politicians grow further and further out of control. Our law enforcement has killed, as of today, 6 people trying to enforce and unconstitutional gun confiscations (the red flag law.) Our country is on the brink of war.
I've seen war. It is not pretty.
