ID # Breakdown
Press Play - Hazel
Echo took her test on 9/17/2022 and scored a B. Only time will tell as she grows, her environment, socialization and training how her personality will continue to develop, but she's headed in the right direction!
Echo loves to play. She is a very energetic, curious and agile. She's not shown any hesitation jumping down and up steps like others in her litter have. When presented to a new environment she is inquisitive and follows her nose everywhere. Meanwhile her tail is wagging a mile a minute. She is happiest when she's on an adventure.
This shows promise with protection, search & rescue training or even just teaching her how to play hide and seek with your children. Furthermore, she shows a lot of promise as service dog for children with special needs.
While she is still young enough that you could change her name if you like, Echo is what we're using for her training sessions.
Overall, a B personality score is a very good grade to have in your home if you are looking for a serious protection dog. However, I would advise that you have some experience working and training with dogs before you decide to undertake a canine with this amount of ambition.
Service work examples that would work well with this personality score:
- Police work
- Military canine
- Personal Protection
- Search & Rescue
Furthermore, they have the potential to be excellent family pets. Their extremely loving nature, combined with their ability to better handle fear puts them on an excellent starting point for protecting their family.
Keep in mind, caution should be exercised when you have visitors. They will be protective of their pack (ie. their family) and will be suspicious of outsiders. Lots of socialization starting at a young age and consistent training is vital.
The Parents of: Echo
Tackleberry Solution's Protection Canine: Hazel
This is Hazel. She was the mother dog of our very first litter. She has a gentle, yet defensive temperament. She is very loving, she also is smart and not afraid to protect her family. She is also a very good judge of friend from foe. We are not afraid to have her out when friends come over to visit. You can learn more about Hazel by going to her page here.
Tackleberry Solution's Protection Canine: Zeus
Zeus is a 100% European purebred Doberman Pinscher. He is very loving and enjoys playing. While Zeus is protective of his family, he is also very friendly to visitors and does very well with children. Click here to view his personal page.
Social Outing Assessment October 2022 Age: 12 weeks
In public, Echo behaved like a champ. I sincerely do believe that she's going to make someone an excellent service dog or even just a great family pet.
I took her to the park on a day where there were tons of children wearing costumes for a trunk or treat night. Despite being masked in all sorts of different costumes, Echo was friendly to everyone. (Contrary to popular belief, this is actually a good thing. Dogs that are automatically distrustful of everyone are exhibiting signs of fear. Fearful aggression = not good.)
She continued to display her playful and curious nature. Even tried to climb onto the playground in order to explore and engage with the other children.
There was one child in particular that loved all over her and had a blast running around behind her while holding her leash. (I've pictured her below.)
Interaction with Other Dogs
In watching her, I've found that she tends to be more submissive towards her siblings and would probably do really well with other pets in the home.
Possible Protection Work
At this point, possible protection work with Echo is yet to be determined. She doesn't show fear in public and she has a high play drive. All of these factors are a great starting point for protection work training. However, her submissive actions among her siblings indicate a degree of fearfulness. Only time and further training will provide a better answer.
